With a humongous grouping of talented artists and a long standing history of tattooing, naming the best tattoo artists in Philadelphia is not a simple chore.
When you conduct a search for the best tattoo artists in Philadelphia it’s tough to find a clear list of talent. So, we took it upon ourselves to craft something worthy of the top tattoo artists the city has to offer.
Like our other lists, we do understand that the word “best” is quite subjective. And that our inclusions and exclusions may be raise questions and comments. Our goal with these lists is always to reflect a grouping of artists in a specific area that we are quite fond of – rather than the word of all out gospel. We encourage you to send us submissions for any tattooists we may have missed, we would be happy to grow this list.
While we do consider this list a grouping of our “best tattoo artists in Philadelphia” we also want to acknowledge a HUGE grouping of talented tattoo artists that we could not leave off this list: Bill Foulkrod, Justin Harris, Sheena, Mike Hill, Ryan Szadyr, Jon Howie, David McCall, Andy Robinson, Bobby Lockhart, John Tarrao, Johnny Gues, Martin Lacasse, Scott Smith, Steve Tiberi, The Gus, Doug Hanson, Hoode, Bird Reynolds, Rachel Shelly, Shlak, Chad Knight, Dave Moyer, Braden Kendall, Sean Barry, Ozzie Perez, Troy Souders, Sal Ffiti, Kyle Fitzpatrick, Doug Hand, Dwayne Moore, Dan Mrusko, Billy Ferrier, Troy Timpel, Mike Meehan, Tim Kamerdze, Ray Petty, Ryan Lebiedzinski, Jay Cunliffe, Nate Cook, and John Pohl.
Here is a look at our choice for best tattoo artists in Philadelphia:
Craig Cardyan rocks. There’s nothing this man can’t do from Japanese, to traditional, to wildlife/landscapes. If you’re lucky enough to book with Craig, you’re next tattoo will be awesome.
Jackie Jennings is a talented tattooist with a knack for Black & Grey, and the occasional realistic portrait. Jackie was a former contestant on Ink Master 3.
Paul Acker is one of the most well known names in Philadelphia tattooing. He specializes in horror and is one of the most talented realistic tattooers the country has to offer.
Shane is a multi-celebrated artist with a plethora of awards. He starred on Spike’s Ink Master and runs two studios; one in Philadelphia, and one in Delaware. Shane focuses mainly on Black & Grey portrait work.
Nick “The Tailor” Solomon has a unique style that’s immediately recognizable from miles away. It’s tough to put a name to the style – as it’s an abstract form of water color wildlife. Whatever it is, we love it.
Bryan Merck is all sorts of awesome. He’s currently working at Iron Lotus in Iowa – but has made appearances at, and is moving to Deep Six later this year – so we felt it necessary to show him a warm welcome.
Jason Goldberg is the owner of Olde City Tattoo and a seasoned veteran of the Philly tattoo scene. He produces killer traditional work and every so often cranks out the occasional portrait.
Wildlife, color, flowers. If those are your things, make sure you head over to Gia at her private studio. Currently Gia has a four month waiting list.
Tim Pangburn is the owner of Art Machine Productions and has over 13 years of experience in the Philadelphia scene. He’s a multi-talented artist capable of handling the most intricate styles.
Yes, one more artist from Deep Six (we can’t help it, these guys rock!). Tom is a highly versatile artist, but what we like most is his Black & Grey.
We encourage you to send us submissions for any tattooists we may have missed, we would be happy to grow this list.
