These are the types of stories we love to share.
A thread surfaced on Imgur from a user named raingoose, she was tired of reminding people not to speak to hear in her deaf ear, so she decided to tattoo a speaker icon with an “X” beside it – to serve as a reminder to those speaking with her.
“I thought this was a friendly [way] to remind the world not to talk to me from the left,” she writes.
Other Imgur users with similar situations applauded the move, with tonnes of user comments such as this from DactylicHexameter “Totally stealing your idea!”. And this isn’t the first time we’ve seen amazing people do great things with their tattoos – remember the father who tattooed a cochlear implant on his head to match his daughters condition.
Some commenters are curious about the tattoo, but in a respectful manner, “[The speaker] makes me think there is no audio coming out,” writes one commenter. But this is nothing that raingoose hasn’t thought about. She purposefully used a speaker over a microphone, but she was afraid that it would discourage people from talking to her at all.
“I may be a stutterer, but I can still articulate myself,” says raingoose.
Offering up some heartfelt advice to others in her situation, “Don’t worry, I know it sucks so bad,” she writes, “But eventually you’ll get used to it and it will be a tiny little thing that is a part of you.”
